CEO Mario Hardy weighs in on matters of sustainability in tourism and how we can help make a difference in the industry.
At PATA, our role is to provide leadership in travel industry issues, and our mission is to act as a catalyst for the responsible development of the Asia Pacific travel and tourism industry. Knowing that sustainable growth is our future, we are excited to dedicate this issue to conversations about sustainability and social responsibility.
I hope you enjoy tuning into PATA Conversations, and learning about practices and opinions within our industry. In this issue, we speak to experts in the sector, including Randy Durband, CEO of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, the organization that sets sustainable tourism standards for hotels, tour operators, and destinations; we learn about what a luxury hotel group is doing from Langham’s Sustainability Manager Carmen Ng; and we see a discussion on sustainability with Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck, Fiona Jeffrey of Just a Drop and WTTC Tourism for Tomorrow Awards, and our very own Sustainability and Social Responsibility Specialist, Chi Lo.
You will find that although it is a sometimes complex topic, throughout the industry and greater economy, running an organization in a sustainable and socially responsible way is not a trend; it is quickly becoming the norm.
It is our generation, a key part of business today, and it is expected.
PATA can help you meet and exceed those expectations by sharing case studies on our forthcoming online platform, sustain.pata.org, dedicated to sustainability, through meetings and events with varying degrees of focus on social responsibility and sustainable tourism, and through our network of sustainability partners and members.
I hope you will engage with us on sustainability matters, because sustainability matters!
